I have to post this because it is driving me bat shit.
Last night, 4 of us played a game of BR slayer on Relic. (Dread, Furiont, XattaX, Jester14) While it wasn't a bad game, we lost to an inferior team and it drove me nuts.
First off, upon spawing on the Pelican side of the map, I told the team to make sure we secured the human sniper.
The response was:
"I'm going on rockets" and "Trying to get the beam"
No, no, no. Because we split up that way, we lost the rockets, the beam, AND the human sniper and we had to play defensively the entire game. We NEVER controlled a sniper or a vehicle in that game and it cost us.
Now, I was impressed by the teams discipline after that point. We managed to get the lead and then stayed low behind the base to take the snipers out of the game. However, we made another critical mistake. While we were staying low, we did not set up an effective perimiter.
Instead of each of us taking an entrance in a supportable positon, (ie sword at portal, BR on each flank and one top side base near the hole) we sort of swept in a line behind the base. This allowed the other team to creep up the frontside ramps and assault us with superior numbers.
We fought hard, but not smart, and that is why we lost. I just wanted to post this as a learning lesson for future games.

I couldn't agree more. Also we need to work on getting those deaths down.

Good point Furiont, that is something else I also wanted to touch on in this thread. We are getting much better about winning the 1v1 fights, but as we get higher in level, those fights are not going to be as frequent. Because of that, we are losing alot of battles simply because we are outnumbered. We, as a team, need to focus on closing our formations and understanding how to support each other so that when a team member comes under fire, we can bring fire from multiple angles on the enemy to eliminate him quickly or at least give our teammates the opportunity to find cover. This also becomes important in laying down cover fire to move on an entrenched position (like an enemy sniper).
Wheather this means running like a tight pack on Warlock or maintaining crossfire with BRs on Relic, this is something that we must improve to become a truly dominant team.

Yes Dread you are exactley right. If our team can focus fire on the same person then we will reign supreme, but we must use our communication skills in order for it to happen. I think we at least need to move in pairs, if not more. The group poses much a larger threat than a few of us going at a time.

I think the first game that we played on Relic that was just ridiculous.... we just didn't think. They had that hill covered with snipers. We kept getting sniped. For some reason we thought that if we took their snipers down, we could then start getting kills. Heres the problem with that logic... they got more kills by us trying to take them out. Meanwhile, while we were trying to get the position, their snipers were empty and they had no competition getting the sniping spawns... and the deaths continued. The next game, same level, we got smarter, BUT we died more than we killed. I think maybe one or two of us had more deaths than kills. The rest were either the same or more deaths than kills. As a group, a lot of us still havent grasped the concept: (in slayer games) if everyone has more kills than deaths, you win.... its flawless. The number doesnt matter. If you have 1 kill and 0 deaths, and everyone on the team has that same number... you win. The problem some people have, especially when you're having a bad game, is that they are trying so hard to have most kills in the group. If you have 25 kills and died 26 times.... you didn't benefit your team at all.... you gave their team a 1 kill advantage which makes those 25 kills pointless. By this, I'm not saying you should have had 27 kills, I'm saying you should have less DEATHS, not kills. If I see a person in a game that only amounted to 5-6 kills a game, and thier death count is lower, they helped our team. I'd rather see a member with those numbers, than a person with 25 kills/26 deaths. I'm gonna start making some posts about things to think about regarding this.

Thanks Furiont, appreciate you furtherhing the discussion on this. That first game I am trying to forget. It was, as you so eloquently stated, rediculous.
Can't wait to read you upcoming articles.

Yeah, me too. But honestly... I really thinked we learned from that game and carried it over to the next game. Sure we lost that one... but it was much closer and could have been a win. Sometimes ya gotta have your ass handed to you to get better.

Sometimes ya gotta have your ass handed to you to get better. Amen to that. The way I get better is to play anyone that I can find that's better than me. I try to get some pros to play agains that's even better.

Thumbs up on that one. That's what this posting is all about, learning from past mistakes and building on both our successes and our failures to become a stronger clan.

Sure a loss can make you mad, but always, always, find something positive about it. No matter how much of an asshole they may have been to you, always try to take something good out of it. Could be a psychological thing like not letting what they say get to you, to just the way you may have played. If the game was legit and you lost, you didnt do enough to win. DO NOT ever blame the other team for the reason you lost, unless they cheated. You lost because they played better or they played better as a team... thats all there is to it. You'll never improve if you blame your loss on anyone other than yourself. Those are the times when you learn the most.
