"Making yourself invincible means knowing yourself; Waiting for vulnerability in opponents means knowing others." - Sun Tzu
In any combat situation, knowledge, coupled with ability, is the factor that will determine who emerges as the victor. In Halo, we can use this to our advantage. I'm going to break down a few things that we may be taking for granted.
The first thing to keep in mind is knowing exactly what is happening on the battlefield at all times. This includes having a plan going in to every situation. One of the primary uses of this forum is to organize strategies for our clan to use. We still have lots of empty space in our strat section, so please take some time to fill out the things that we don't have tactics for yet. The other thing that we will begin doing is taking time in our weekly clan meetings to walk through the ideas we have posted so that everyone knows how we are going to approace the situation and how they fit into the scheme.
That leads me to my next point. We seem to be falling into cetain roles within the team, which is fantastic to see. However, one thing we are still struggling with is identifying things on the field as they change. If a team member asks "Anyone have the sniper?", it should take about 3 seconds to answer that question. Either you have it, or you don't. IMMEDIATELY answer the question unless you are engaged so that the team leader can assess the situation and plan accordingly.
Once we know what we are doing (which makes us invincible), the next step is knowing what our enemy is attempting to do. Stay in touch with your team and let them know what you see them doing so that we can find and exploit their weaknesses ASAP. If we know what they want to do we can take it away from them and give ourselves a better chance to win.
"Those on the defensive are so because they do not have enough to win; Those on the offensive are so because they have more than enough to win." - Sun Tzu
This is a very important point, especially in objective games where weapon/map control can mean the difference between victory and defeat. There are times when you have no chance of scoring, and it is better to play defensive. Going back to the first point, this is the time to collect information on the enemy, identify their plan, stop it, collect control and THEN make our attack.
I have posted before the principle of attacking only when you are guaranteed to suceed. We have a tendancy to sometimes run in and try to grab a flag when the team would be better served if you only stay nearby to contest and recon the enemy position until the attack is supported and can suceede.
Failed attacks result only in things that hurt our team. We lose valuable time traveling across the map, we lose our weapons and turn them over to the enemy, and we can quickly lose map control. You will notice almost all of my strategies place an emphasis on gaining midfield control and then moving forward with numbers to have a sucessful attack. As we each fall into roles and learn to support each other, we will become stronger on the attack if we work on perfecting our timing. Have more than enough fire/man power to win and then move in.
