Randomizing your movements in battle is one way that I have found to get an edge on the competition. When engaging in a firefight it is not to your advantage to run directly at your opponent while blazing away, especially now that the melee is like getting hit with a Louisville slugger. This technique requires a steady hand and good aim as well as quick thinking. One of my favorite moves is to fake one direction (we’ll say left); jump back to the right and toward my opponent, all the while shooting them in the head. Now that the battle rifle start is a common variant it is crucial to either get the jump on your opponent or make them miss at least one head shot. Knowing how to evade your opponent while fighting is crucial in maximizing your kill/death ratio. Recognizing where my opponent is in terms of terrain, what he is carrying, and how he is trying to attack me have upped my win percentage immensely.
Other methods that I have found to be successful include charging through a haze of grenade smoke. If the enemy can’t see you coming then you can get the drop on them and hopefully the competitive advantage. Jumping through the smoke works well because they are usually aiming low and expecting you to run directly at them. Using the terrain is also very helpful. For example on Beaver Creek while entering a fray it is helpful to jump off of a rock or wall and come in from above.
One important word of caution is not to become predictable when using this method. Do not give you opponents the chance to adjust to your style. I love playing people in BR Slayer on Colossus who implement the “Pong” method where they strafe side to side while shooting the BR, keeping themselves to a set rhythm. This is a very predicable pattern and once you realize the trend it is easy to combat. In summary, try to be a ghost while on the attack. The enemy can’t kill what it can’t easily capture in its sights.
